Developing Pediatric and Child Health Friendly EHRs

Pediatric and child health friendly EHRs are distinct due to the unique health needs of children and adolescents. There are particular considerations that should be taken into account when developing pediatric EHRs and when implementing EHRs in the pediatric setting. Therefore, this module differs from other toolkits in that it directly addresses EHR design and implementation within the context of child and adolescent health. This module has been developed around five concepts integral to developing pediatric EHRs; getting stakeholder buy-in, selecting an appropriate EHR, financing an EHR, implementing an EHR, and creating comprehensive medical records. Questions have been developed around each of these five topics to examine these ideas in greater depth.

Developed by the Health Resources and Services Administration as a resource for health centers and other safety net and ambulatory care providers who are seeking to implement health IT.
