Investments during National Recovery Month advance President Trump’s Great American Recovery by expanding prevention, treatment, and recovery services in rural America
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) today announced $89.3 million through the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) to expand access to substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery services in rural communities across the country. Announced during National Recovery Month, these awards will support rural communities in 45 states and one territory and underscore the importance of ensuring that people can access treatment and the support needed for long-term recovery.
The investments advance the Great American Recovery, established by President Trump to coordinate the national response to addiction, expand access to treatment and recovery support, and better align federal resources to address substance use disorder.
“National Recovery Month reminds us that recovery is possible — and that people need access to treatment and support no matter where they live,” said HRSA Administrator Tom Engels. “While overdose deaths have declined nationally, rural communities continue to face significant challenges accessing substance use disorder treatment and recovery services. These awards will help rural communities expand services, respond to overdoses, strengthen their behavioral health workforce, and build the local partnerships needed to support long-term recovery.”
The awards announced today include:
- $62.7 million for RCORP-Impact to expand access to integrated and coordinated substance use disorder treatment and recovery services. Award recipients will strengthen evidence-based services, build the rural substance use disorder workforce, coordinate health and supportive services, and develop community networks to support sustained recovery.
- $12.6 million for RCORP-Overdose Response to help rural communities address immediate substance use disorder needs, reduce the risk of overdose, and strengthen access to prevention, treatment, and recovery services.
- $10 million for RCORP-Technical Assistance to provide RCORP award recipients with tailored technical assistance to implement and sustain effective behavioral health prevention, treatment, and recovery services.
- $4 million for RCORP-Planning to help rural communities build partnerships, assess local needs, develop action plans, strengthen provider capacity, and expand sustainable access to substance use disorder and related behavioral health services.
RCORP supports locally driven solutions to substance use disorder in rural communities. Through partnerships among healthcare providers, community organizations, and other local stakeholders, RCORP helps communities strengthen the workforce, services, and infrastructure needed to respond to local needs and support sustained recovery.
HRSA, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is home to the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, which coordinates rural health activities across HHS and provides funding and technical assistance to improve healthcare access and outcomes in rural communities. RCORP is a multi-year initiative administered by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy to help rural communities address substance use disorder, including opioid use disorder.
