Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation

ACOT provides advice and recommendations to the HHS Secretary on Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) policies. We advise on issues related to organ donation, allocation, transplantation, patient safety, and data collection. We ensure checks and balances within the U.S. organ transplant system, transparency, and a focus on patient-centered practices.

Our recommendations focus on:

  • Enhancing organ donation
  • Ensuring that the organ transplantation system reflects the best available medical science
  • Assuring the public that the organ transplantation system is as effective and fair as possible
  • Boosting public confidence and trust in the organ transplantation system

ACOT was established under the authority of 42 U.S.C. Section 217a, Section 222 of the Public Health Service Act, as amended, and 42 CFR 121.12 (2000).
