Biography

Dr. Laura Cheever is Associate Administrator of the HIV/AIDS Bureau at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) where she provides leadership and technical expertise in the administration of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. Upon joining HRSA in 1999, she served as the national director of the Ryan White AIDS Education and Training Center program. Her priorities are to end the HIV epidemic in the U.S. through increasing access to HIV care and improving outcomes, integrate substance abuse treatment into HIV care, and eliminate Hepatitis C infection among co-infected patients.

Previously, Dr. Cheever was an Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University where she developed a regional HIV program to provide on-site HIV care in health departments serving 18 Maryland counties. Dr. Cheever has served as medical director of both a women's methadone program and a peer-based adherence program and directed provider training for the Johns Hopkins AIDS Service. Dr. Cheever has worked internationally and with the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief since its inception. She is Board Certified in Infectious Diseases, continues to provide clinical care for patients with HIV, and is a member of the Department of Health and Human Services HIV Treatment Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents Committee. She has trained at Johns Hopkins University, the University of California, San Francisco, and Brown University.
