Biography
Tanette Downs serves as Associate Administrator of the Provider Relief Bureau (PRB) at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). In this role, she oversees the Bureau’s efforts to ensure resiliency of the nation’s health care systems and infrastructure by supporting health care entities in the United States to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus. The Provider Relief Bureau is responsible for managing the $178 billion dollar Provider Relief Fund that reimburses health care providers for health care-related expenses or lost revenues attributable to coronavirus and provides claims reimbursement for health care entities for COVID-19 testing, treatment and vaccine administration for uninsured and underinsured individuals.
Prior to joining HRSA, Ms. Downs served as Director for Operations and Management at Federal Occupational Health (FOH) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), where she was responsible for a variety of business functions including fiscal operations, budget formulation and execution, IT, procurement, logistics, and human resources. Throughout her career, Ms. Downs has held key program integrity and financial management leadership roles across the federal government, including more than two decades with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), where she held a number of progressively responsible leadership positions including Deputy Director of the Investigation and Audit Group, Director of the Division of Plan Oversight and Accountability, Director of the Division of Capitated Plan Audits, and Director of the Division of Finance and Benefits. She has also held positions at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Ms. Downs holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Morgan State University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She is also a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute “Leadership for Democratic Society”.
