Registration

Section 340B(a)(4) of the Public Health Service Act (PHS) Act (42 U.S.C. 256b) lists eligible organizations that can participate in and purchase discounted drugs under the 340B Program.

HRSA's Office of Pharmacy Affairs (OPA) requires registration and approval for covered entities to participate in the 340B Program.

New covered entities and the addition of outpatient facilities must register during these dates:

RegisterStart Date
January 1 – 15April 1
April 1 – 15July 1
July 1 – 15October 1
October 1 – 15January 1

If the 15th falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or federal holiday, the deadline will be the next business day.

Covered entities can't submit registrations outside of these dates unless the Secretary of Health & Human Services declares a Public Health Emergency.

During Initial Registration
Covered entities must:

  • Pay close attention to alerts during the registration process
  • Upload required supporting files on the same day that the registration is submitted

We may reject registrations if supporting documentation isn't submitted.

NOTE: A covered entity can't register a contract pharmacy as a covered entity.

During OPA Review of Registration
Covered entities must review the OPA reviewer comments each time a registration is sent back in 340B OPAIS to determine if there are any items that require action for that particular registration.

If the entity is unable to act on the registration, make a note in the review box and return it to us with an explanation. Registrations returned without action will be rejected. We won't approve any registration if it's returned without a response from the entity. If a registration is returned, the entity has five days to respond before the registration is automatically sent back to us and rejected.
